A BENEFIT FOR THE BOSTON GLOBE FOUNDATION’S GLOBE SANTA PROGRAM
The Annual Salem Snow Ball began as an idea, a house party, for 20-30 friends to get together and raise a few hundred dollars for charity in 1995. Interest in the idea grew to the point where we had to rent a hall and a DJ. More than 100 people attended and $1,625 was donated to Globe Santa in 1995. That simple idea planted a seed; and with the help of our many generous donors, attendees and volunteers, that seed has grown to an annual event that has donated over $307,000 to the Boston Globe Santa Fund since its inception.
Since 1956, the Globe Santa Fund has collected donations from the general public to purchase holiday gifts for underprivileged children. We selected the Globe for its extreme generosity in paying all administrative costs for the program and providing a space in the newspaper during the holiday season to publish stories about families in need and listing the names of those who give.
The Boston Globe Santa Fund program helps brighten the holiday season for more than 31,000 families and 55,000 children in 167 communities in the Boston area each year. When you make a tax-deductible donation to Globe Santa, you’re giving an underprivileged child a gift.
